It has been my privilege to attend the Wig Workshop conducted by Bonnie Charles and I would be happy to recommend this workshop to anyone wishing to extend their skills in fundamental wig care, styling and fitting.
Bonnie and I have been work colleagues for many years and as 'freelancers', work with each other in various locations and for various job requirements. It has been in these settings that I observed Bonnie's expertise in everything to do with hairdressing and wigs and was filled with admiration for her work, as she is also a stellar makeup artist!
As a makeup artist whose experience with wig work required refreshing, Bonnie's two day workshop with a small working group provided the ideal setting in which to learn and refresh knowledge. The course structure allowed for the logical progression through the skill sets with some notes supplied to support the student.
With Bonnie's well respected industry reputation, her volume of knowledge and her natural ability as a trainer to deliver information in a cohesive and logical way, I have been happy to recommend her workshops to other industry professionals who express a desire to revive their wig skills.
Robyn (Robbie) Austin - Makeup Artist
I attended a one day Hair Workshop which was organised and run by Bonnie Charles.
A few colleagues and I attended her course and we couldn't have asked for a better day.
She is absolutely the best in the business and I gained so much confidence and many fabulous tips from this class. Nothing is too much trouble for her to explain, she is patient and makes it all so easy (she also has a wicked sense of humour as well, so we had lots of laughs along the way).
I am a makeup artist and hair stylist in the television industry and really needed her expert tricks of the trade... we left the day with a wealth of knowledge. Every job I do since, I find myself taking something from her class that I learnt. I am looking forward to her holding another one in Sydney soon.

Bonnie is a wealth of industry knowledge and is also exceptional at sharing her talents...plus you'll have a good laugh along the way.
A must for anyone who needs to strengthen their weaknesses and give themselves a hair confidence boost. Highly recommend.
Cathy Savage - Head Hair and Makeup Artist Fox Sports
I qualified as a makeup artist in Sydney, Australia in 1997. I landed in the television industry simply because that's where I found the most work opportunities. Around that time, the industry was experiencing a bit of a shift ... where as once a Hair Stylist and a Makeup Artist would have been booked separately for a job, it was now expected that one person be proficient in both skill sets.
During my makeup diploma, only minimal hair styling was taught. In fact I think it was only one or two weeks, tops. Most of it was theory - period hairstyling and a quick short cut to each. I realised I had so much more to learn if I was going to make myself more employable. I commenced a hairdressing apprenticeship but quickly realised that an indepth knowledge of perming wasn't helping me get to where I needed to be, and certainly not quickly enough. It was hard enough trying to make it as a newly qualified freelance Makeup Artist in Sydney: I needed to be working as much as possible.
So, due to lack of other options, I just slogged away and learned on the job. Some of my early work was crap let's not beat around the bush (apologies to those people who felt my fear transfer through the bristles of the brush). I survived and got better. Well I must have, I supervised countless comedy series, more reality than you'd care to imagine, a couple of feature films and lots of other stuff.
Secretly I was still petrified of hair. Then I met Bonnie Charles. What an absolute legend of a person. Seriously, I cannot thank the universe enough to have arranged a meeting between us. Bonnie is one of these rare people you meet in life - you know the ones you can count on one hand?
A wickedly funny, whip smart, insightful, kind and just straight up wonderful soul. I think we met on a job perhaps Bachelor S1, but I had already heard of her through a mutual friend of ours.
So as wonderful as she is as a person, I was amazed to learn she is an absolute hair wizard - I'm talking next level talented. The thing I most loved about her? That she didn't have an attitude to match her ridiculous talent. It's not hard to find hairdressers and makeup artists whose attitude may have you believing they're curing cancer. Not only was Bonnie insanely talented she was unassuming about it. The clincher for me was she was so happy to share her knowledge! Not in a patronising way but in a pure, unassuming, generous way. What a wonderful thing it is when professional people get together and share knowledge with no ulterior motive - when those people are creative, amazing stuff can happen.
After a while Bonnie realised that there were a group of people she'd worked with over the years that were similar to me ... completely established, competent professionals who just wanted some confidence in the hair department.
Great styles, great techniques, expanded product knowledge and due to the fact we all worked in TV - the short cuts on how to do everything.
We had a great day in Bon's full day hair workshop. I am still using skills she taught me, products that are her faves, and still marvel at the difference a mini-crimper has made in my life! It has been a few years now and I think I am ready for a refresher course. I cannot recommend Bonnie enough - such a wealth of knowledge and a brilliant, brilliant woman.
